Introduction of School of Electrical Engineering and Automation

School of Electrical Engineering and Automation was formed by disciplinary recombination on the basis of former Department of Electrical Engineering in June, 2003. Department of Electrical Engineering grew out of Department of Electro-mechanics, which was founded as one of the first five departments at the establishment of Fuzhou University in 1958. Its total construction area is 16980 square meters, with teaching and research floor area of 14593 square meters and administration floor area of 2387 square meters.

School of Electrical Engineering and Automation has two first-class branches of learning: Electrical Engineering and Control Science and Engineering, which are key disciplines in Fujian Province. There is one post-doctorate research center in Electrical Engineering, one first-class discipline doctor’s degree program for Electrical Engineering, and two first-class discipline master’s degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Control Science and Engineering. The first-class discipline master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering has five second-class discipline master’s degree programs in Electrical Machinery and Electrical Appliance, Electric Power Electronics and Electric Power Transmission, Electric Power System and Automation, High Voltage and Insulation, and Electrotechnics Theory and New Technology. The first-class discipline in Control Science and Engineering has four second-class discipline master’s degree programs for Control Theory and Control Engineering, Mode Recognition and Intelligence System, System Engineering, and Detection Technology and Automatic Devices. In addition, the school is qualified to confer two engineering master degrees in Electrical Engineering and Control Engineering.

School of Electrical Engineering and Automation has abundant qualified teaching staff with a group of vibrant young and middle-aged teachers. There are 88 full-time teachers, including one national distinguished professional and technical talent, one leading talent of National Ten Thousand Talents Program, one distinguished professor of Min River Scholars Program, one faculty of National Hundred Thousand Ten Thousand Talents Program, two faculties of high-level innovative entrepreneurial talents of Fujian Province, one faculty supported by Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of the Department of Science and Technology of Fujian Province, and two winners of Lu Jiaxi Excellent Supervisors. One team won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Awards in 2011. Among the staff, 28 of them are professors, 42 of them are associate professors and 12 of them are part-time professors. 14 of them are supervisors of Ph. D. students and 60 of them are supervisors of master students. 57 of them hold Ph. D. degrees.

After more than 50 years of development, School of Electrical Engineering and Automation has cultivated many senior professionals in the fields of electrical engineering and automation with solid foundation, a wide range of knowledge and strong adaptiveness. They have won a lot of praise from employment units. The employment rate of graduates from the school remains ahead at university for many years.

The staff should work together in light of the strategy plan of Fuzhou University to become a world-class high-level 211 university. School of Electrical Engineering and Automation possesses the solid disciplinary strength and is featured by the combination of manufacture, teaching and research. In the future, it will develop rapidly in accordance with the overall goal of the university.
